We take immense pride in bringing to your kind notice that one of the most revered and prestigious ‘Sarbojanin’ Durga Puja of North Kolkata is celebrating its 84th year.

This community puja was conceived and came into existence in 1932 by noted journalist Late Hemendra Prasad Ghosh and another eminent personality Dr. Girish Ghosh. The world famous scientist Late Acharya Prafulla Chandra Roy, unveiled the idol of Devi Durga in its inaugural year. This puja has been graced by none other than Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and other glorious personalities of our country in general and Bengal in particular. This community puja also served as a platform where various familiar faces of our struggle for independence gathered to share a dais and emerged as a rallying point of the then North Kolkata.

It is also an organisation which not only dedicates itself to organising only a Durga Puja but it indulges in yearlong community service programmes such as free health check-up camp , blood donation camp , distribution of books , spectacles , books , exercise books , pens , pencils , sit and draw competition , inviting children of orphanages and blind persons to participate in the puja organised by us , spreading the message of awareness against drug abuse , planting of trees ,etc.

Theme Details

Our theme revolves round an ancient temple dedicated to Goddess Durga , surrounded by picturesque hills. A large tree root which emerges from below the structure of the temple gives the temple a surreal appearance.

The large tree root forces the temple to lean but it fails to affect the sanctum sanctorum(Garbhagriha) – the innermost sanctum of a Hindu temple , where resides the idol of Goddess Durga.
